What  are Alpha Kappa Alpha Women???

    Alpha Kappa Alpha women are college presidents, deans, directors of Fortune 500 companies, judges, mayors, and members of Congress, state legislatures, city councils, and school boards. [We] are rural and urban teachers, counselors, and role models. An Alpha Kappa Alpha woman made the calculations for the automatic control system design of the first orbital flight.

    Members are poets, musicians, artists, and dancers. They are fighters for civil and human rights. They are the strong mothers and wives of brave men who have carried burdens in the heat of the day. Sometimes they are kinfolks--mothers, daughters, sisters--but often they are themselves the leaders of catalysts. They make history whenever they come together.

    There are no average or even typical Alpha Kappa Alpha women. They fit no common physical descriptions or economic characteristics, yet they are all the same--these women who wear the twenty pearls. You can identify them by the smiles on their faces and the love in their eyes.  Beautiful Alpha Kappa Alpha women are young, mature matriarchal, elderly, and venerable. Life polishes neophytes until they are shining silver stars, who then mellow into the glowing radiance of golden sorors."

AKATUDE

Conceited we're called
Because we stand tall
Uppity we're deemed
Due to our self-esteem
Our noses are always in the air
For looking downward we don't dare

And continue with pride
Realizing that if you're a lady
You're automatically downgraded
Sophistication and Class is a plus
Although others don't view it as much

Their thoughts are so remote
But when WE were founded
Women couldn't vote
Civil rights were a luxury
In the early 20th Century

AKA was very political
Although they laugh and act very cynical
So remember the next time they jeer,
You were the FIRST to be here
Deleting all that was not good
And replacing it with SISTERHOOD
Setting a trend for all the rest
Proving that they could be the very best.
As ladies we must learn
Nothing is given, all is earned
With this in mind
You'll ultimately find
That it's a flair
It's a mood

Original, by definition means pertaining to the source,
Well when you speak of the Original Woman you are speaking of me.
See -- I am the AKA, the First and the Finest for All to behold
I change Black Women into Black Pearls, I am 93 years old.
By merit and by culture is the motivation behind my stride
An Alpha Kappa Alpha Woman always walks with pride.

You see, being the Original Woman is not my only claim to fame,
Service to all mankind is my most esteemed aim.
I am the Original, giving consistently of myself,
Addressing pertinent issues, from AKAdemics to good health.
Who made the commitment to do good,
A commitment to my people and to my Sisterhood.

I am the hope and the dream of the impoverished and the unclean
When I grace the room you know the Pink and Green is on the scene.
I am intelligent, beautiful, finest yet and sophisticated,
A strong Black woman, college trained, widely educated.
One time originated, three times imitated, but never, ever duplicated!

I represent Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated!!!!
